A custom-designed and fabricated 6.2m aluminium pontoon dive boat built to meet Maritime Rules 40A and 40C for NIWA's environmental research fleet.
Challenge
NIWA required a high-performance dive boat with excellent stability, seaworthiness, and sea-kindliness that could be transported by trailer to various research locations around New Zealand. The vessel needed to provide a safe, comfortable platform for environmental research in a range of sea conditions.
Solution
We designed a purpose-built hull with moderate deadrise for comfortable riding in choppy conditions and a flat delta center section that allows for increased load capacity. The pontoon construction provides additional sealed volume in the sides, enhancing safety with positive buoyancy while maintaining stability when the vessel is at rest or taking on water.
